Operating Room Digitalisation

The operating room
connected, managed, controlled.

HIVE supports healthcare facilities in the design and deployment of digitalised operating rooms : centralised, ergonomic and interoperable.

Field observations

The operating room concentrates challenges that technology alone cannot solve.

Heterogeneous equipment, disparate connectors, EU-MDR standards, staff turnover, lack of visibility over the asset base : teams face growing complexity that calls for a comprehensive, structured response.

Technical room of an operating theatre before integration, bare concrete, service networks and a standalone rack
The technical room of an operating theatre, before integration. That is the real starting point of every project, and it is never the same from one hospital to the next.

Heterogeneous equipment & connectors

VGA, DVI, HDMI, SDI, SD/HD/4K resolutions : each room is a different ecosystem, difficult to harmonise and maintain.

Increasing EU-MDR requirements

European standards for connected medical devices are tightening. Compliance is becoming a strategic priority for every facility.

Staff turnover & skills development

Staff changes quickly. Skill requirements increase. Non-intuitive interfaces extend training time and generate errors.

Poor visibility over equipment assets

Actual use of medical equipment remains largely invisible. Without data, it is impossible to optimise resources, maintenance and room occupancy.

Our answer

HIVE, conceived and designed with the people who run the operating theatre.

From video management to PACS archiving, from in-room collaboration to activity analytics : HIVE covers the entire surgical workflow in a coherent, brand-agnostic environment.

01

Video visualisation & routing

Intelligent routing of sources to any type of destination (screens, recording system, video conferencing, and so on). Video compatibility with the medical modalities most commonly used in the room. Independent of medical equipment brand.

02

PACS capture & archiving

Patient selection from a worklist. Recording of intraoperative photos and videos, with the option of automatic transfer to the PACS at the close of the procedure.

03

Collaboration & sharing

Intraoperative streaming, video conferencing, remote tele-mentoring and integrated e-Learning. Teams collaborate beyond the walls of the room.

Needs assessment

Understanding the context, constraints, real-world usage and existing technical environment.

02

Custom design

Defining the right response: architecture, equipment, interfaces and deployment conditions.

03

Integration & deployment

Rigorous coordination for a smooth integration, consistent with your operational constraints.

04

Training & follow-up

Team support, lasting adoption and continuous evolution of the solution over time.

Before / After

From a fragmented environment to a manageable room.

Before

A fragmented environment

  • Heterogeneous connectors (VGA, DVI, HDMI, SDI) without coherence
  • No structured archiving : photos and videos lost or isolated
  • No PACS interface from the operating room
  • Streaming and tele-mentoring impossible or improvised
  • Poor visibility over actual equipment usage
  • Each room operates differently : long training, errors
  • Reactive and corrective maintenance, without preventive data
After

A connected, managed, measurable operating theatre

  • Centralised video routing, brand-agnostic, any connector
  • Automatic photo/video archiving in PACS at procedure close
  • Integrated HIS Worklist : patient selected from the start of the procedure
  • Native streaming and video conferencing for tele-mentoring and training
  • Activity dashboards and preventive maintenance alerts
  • Unified interface, identical in all rooms : immediate adoption
  • EU-MDR compliance integrated into the solution architecture

Tele-mentoring & surgical teaching

High-quality intraoperative streaming, multi-site video conferencing, integrated e-Learning modules. Train teams without geographical constraints or activity interruption.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The points most often raised during initial discussions with healthcare facilities.

Yes. HIVE relies on a video routing module that supports most of the medical modalities used in the room. These are fitted with a unit that carries the video without latency (SD, HD, 3D, 4K) to any type of destination.
Rules can be set for automatic transfer to the PACS, or selected captures can be sent manually. Systematic association with the patient from the worklist.
EU-MDR regulatory compliance is integrated from the design of the HIVE architecture. Passman Benelux supports facilities with the documentation and processes needed to bring their connected operating environment into compliance.
The first step is an audit of the existing setup: inventory of equipment, connectors, resolutions, real-world usage and IT constraints. This precise scoping makes it possible to define the right response for your context before any investment. Contact us to arrange this initial analysis.
Absolutely. HIVE is a modular platform: you can start with one or two pilot rooms and then expand progressively. The interface remains identical in all rooms, simplifying training and ensuring consistent usage across the entire theatre.
Yes. For those rooms we offer a set-up combining a capture unit and a Smart Panel, on which the HIVE Capture module runs natively. The user selects their patient from the worklist, then records the photos and videos from the medical modalities used in consultation: endoscopes, colposcopes, and so on. The images are then sent straight to the PACS.
